Nashville Blizzard 2011

The Mighty Oak

We ended up with 2 inches so the title "blizzard" seems a little extreme, however, in Nashville's defense the snow did come in about an hour's time. It was absolute mayhem on Wednesday night. I had friends that left work at 4:30 only to get home around 8pm. Other friends picked their kids up from daycare and ended up with a screaming child in their backseat for 2 hours. Two hours of traffic AND a screaming baby! How in the world do you not kill yourself?

Luckily for us the commute up the stairs took no longer than normal. I refrained from tweeting or facebooking about our commute for fear of that mother spending the extra 2 hours to drive that screaming child over here to kill me. Even with the easy commute we did have a small scare.

One of our neighbors whom we love dearly had a triple bypass a few weeks ago and he was at the hospital for rehab when it hit and then he had to make his way home. We kept checking in on his wife as we noticed it was 8pm and still no Joe. 9pm and still no Joe. I don't know what we were going to do but she finally called and said she had talked to him on his cell phone and he was 2 streets away at about 9:30pm.

This morning still no car. I guess he had to abandon it and walk home. Hopefully walking home in the snow after sitting in a car for 5 hours was an acceptable rehab activity for a guy who just had a triple bypass. I would guess that'll set him back in his recovery but we are just so glad he is home.

We ARE going to learn from yesterday and we're gonna add a blanket and water and baby food to the supplies in our now bigger car.

Oh, did we mention we got a new car? We are now the proud owners of a VW Jetta Sportwagon. I am super sad to be selling the Scion but realizing we couldn't pick my parents up from the airport with the car we owned made us get serious about a new car. After much effort Joshua found one that gets better gas mileage than the Scion and we still have more room so it's a bittersweet win/win. We're selling our 30 mpg car for a 40 mpg wagon that will now have a gallon of water, a blanket and baby food in the back each winter.

Me: 18 degrees Him: 65 degrees

Today it's snowing so much I decided not to get out of bed. I'm dressed and working but with snow like this it's just better to be under a quilt.

It has never actually snowed twice in one year since we have lived in Tennessee but here it is folks. Twice in one year and this time it may be over 6 inches (i'll let you know how it really turns out).

The saddest part of the snow is that Joshua isn't here to see it. He drove straight through yesterday and is back in Texas working to get rid of that last philly (female baby horse for you non ranchers) and getting the house on the market. Plus, Monday is pay day at the restaurant so he'll have checks to sign as well.

Since we just got back from Colorado I don't think he's totally torn up about missing the snow but I would enjoy it more if he was here. We could walk to the agriculture center down the street and sled with the kids. Plus we could make a true human size snowman. Maybe I'll do that anyway.

I promise pictures tomorrow if the snow lives up to expectations.

Hand Offs

We had to schedule a quick trip back to Nashville for a closing this weekend. Turns out people LOVE to buy houses around Christmas. I sold 3 houses and a condo since December 20th. And so if someone wants to pay cash for my listing I will definetly fly myself back to TN to make that happen.

Also turns out that winter is starting 2010 with quite a bang. It has not stopped snowing since we've gotten home to Tennessee two days ago and it won't get above 20 the whole time we are here. All the schools flipped out and were cancelled but Joshua and I had a full slate of meetings and darn if we were going to let a little snow stop us. More than anything we want to curl up on our couch with a fire but instead we are doing the One Car Tango.

Never heard of it?

It's a very practiced dance we've been perfecting the last few months. The key is in the scheduling of meetings but the actual steps go like this. I stay home and prepare for my meeting while Joshua is away at his meeting. Then I get everything together and put on my coat as he is pulling up and he jumps out gives me a quick kiss and I slide into the drivers side while he goes inside to type the proposal from the meeting he just had.

So far we've landed 2 new projects for Joshua and I'm working on 3 new listings all while looking at this every time we leave our driveway.

Salem Dr

Really though the best part is while we're here it's freezing in Texas too. Although there's no icy roads we'd be feeding horses in 20 degree weather and so we missed 3 days of THAT misery fun.

Winter Keeps Coming

So we were greeted with snow as we returned to Nashville. Actually to be more accurate the snow attacked us around the Murfreesboro exit on Interstate 24. I think 3 people in our van would have laid good money on us never making it home. However, we did make it home completely safe and here in Nashville the snow was much more pleasant.

It was a beautiful dusting that I'm sure made every school child happy. Well, except the smart ones who realize they are missing their last day of review before finals. Joshua even had to cancel his early morning meeting because our road was just one big sheet of ice.

I don't think it has snowed this early since we have lived in Nashville. I hear we are in for a "real" winter and because we have a garage and work at home I say, "Come On!"

I love going to sleep with the moon reflecting so brightly on the snow that it lights the windows in the house a bit. I love watching Austin try to manuever the yard looking for a place to pee where she doesn't get the blasted white stuff on her. And most of all I love how our Christmas tree is so sparkly in front of a window that shows nothing but snow.

Happy Snow Day!
