Town and Country Restaurant

I've been staring at this picture on my desktop for months. We took it back in February to give everyone something to visualize when we talk about the restaurant. The place is broken into the main room and the "party room." Party room is where I'm standing. It's also where they had the Rotary meetings and where the overflow of people go during the rush hours. It's also the section of the restaurant that we shut down for some friends one Valentines in high school. We gave them a linen table cloth and a rose and called it a romantic dinner. It's also called the 50's if you're down with the restaurant lingo.

Anyway, now you can see all the cool retro light fixtures and diner tables and if you look close you can see the bar where all the coffee regulars sit and drink all day. No kidding - some of those guys sit there for longer than people sit at Panera working.

News!

I've had to stop calling my mother so she will stop asking me to update the blog. It's a tough life when your internet life starts interfering with your "real" life. I apologize for the lack of posting but I think I mentioned about a year ago that when you have nothing to talk about you have all the time you need to blog but when you have great antidotes about all the interesting things happening to you then there's no time left before you pass out at night.

In lieu of full posts I'll just give you the quick things I've thought about blogging about:

  • Did you hear about the city in Florida that need to destroy an old bridge and instead of spending the $13 million themselves they are trying to get a big Hollywood movie to blow it up? I love that kind of creative problem solving
  • Our adoption agency called us to let us know they are letting a new family into their Taiwan program (something they only do every few months) and they picked us. That means as soon as we get our home study and dossier completed we get to start being on the waiting list.
  • Found out there are 2 families currently on their waiting list and 8 families working to get their dossier finished. Sounds like a race to me. Nothing like making adopting a competition to motivate me towards finishing up all the paperwork.
  • I'm currently working a real estate transaction where my clients are swapping houses. They are literally going to buy each other's houses. Oh and it gets better...they live down the street from each other. You think there's no way to make real estate different? Just try me!

Well, that covers my last two weeks of missing posts. Now you're all caught up on the Fykes and I can stop dodging my mom's calls.

My New Addiciton

Have you ever heard of Groupon? If you haven't you are so missing out on a whole other reason to get out of bed in the morning. I wish I was kidding but this site is now one of the first things I check in the morning. You can read all about it here but the bottom line is they have a deal a day. I've bought house cleaning, jeans and tons of food.

Today I got my hair cut and colored compliments of a groupon. Turns out the salon normally charges $160 and I paid $45. Thank.you.very.much.

BEFORE

AFTER

I know the change isn't dramatic but I just needed a haircut bad. So when this popped up on Groupon - let's just say it was a good day.

The site has actually challenged someone to live solely on Groupons for a year. If I was in college or just out I would totally have signed up. Sounds like an adventure and the $100,000 at the end doesn't sound so bad either. Unfortunately I'm an "adult" and I didn't think the adoption agency would have liked the concept very much.
