All Done Blocking

Well it's been about 6 months since we last talked about this project. We've been slowly plugging away at it, and we just reached a turning point: we finished sewing, ironing and trimming all the blocks and couldn't wait to lay it all out in the living room to see what the final product will look like.

We're now in the process of sewing all the blocks together, next will be sewing the front and back together and "quilting" it.

Next Step: finding somewhere or someone that has a "quilting" machine.

Go Horns!

Tomorrow I go to the fabric store to buy fabric that will "hypothetically" become a quilt. Again, choosing colors FREAK me right on out so I will make Joshua come with me to help decide what's going in the quilt. You know he's going to love that.

Joshua knows if left to myself with this decision there is a chance I could turn into a mess in the middle of a very nice fabric store where some of his (or my) clients might be. So after mentally weighing the cost he'll decide it's actually a very smart business decision to join me.

Whatever! I need the moral support.

I think after a quick preliminary discussion a few days back we will be going with a nice orange color with blue accents. By no means will this be a Longhorn quilt but we miss being around a pleasant orange color so that is probably driving some of the decision. Hopefully they have enough options in the orange we are wanting and I can show you the spoils of the trip once we return.

Canvas Curtain

When I bought this canvas the people selling it asked what I was making. Apparently they had never sold 3 yards of this stuff to one person. When I said I was making a shower curtain they couldn't believe it. Normal people apparently only use canvas to make bags so the people at the store thought I was crazy. They all raised their eyebrows and said, "Oh!"

Three needles later here it is.

The trickiest part of sewing it was the fact that the red parts are rubber and they DID NOT want to go through the machine. Other than that, once I got the right size needle it was a breeze.

Overall, the pattern is a little busy considering that the toilet is all of 2 feet from the curtain but I think it really adds something to the all white room. Too busy or not I would label it a success if for no other reason than I can say - "take that fabric store ladies!"

Finished Projects

We are slowly finishing the projects we have set out to do since our return from Europe. So this week I will feature one a day...for 3 days. Yeah, we have only have three of them finished but I'm not going to let your rolling eyes bother me in the slightest.

If you remember back in July we set out a plan for our bedroom and last week the finishing touches went up (or at least the finishing touches around the bed). I sewed some silk dupioni into a panel that we rigged to hang from the ceiling to cover all the ugly wires. It makes the room feel a little fancier.

I'm really enjoying sewing panels. Let me know if you need any curtains because I am so mastering all kinds of methods to make panels. Tomorrow you will see that I can even sew canvas now...I'm telling you its getting crazy over here.

Not Exactly What I had in Mind

I finished the first apron I made for myself right before I left for Texas. I didn't have time to take a picture to share with you before I left so I asked Joshua to take a picture for me. This is what he gave me. Enjoy!

The New Thing With Hands

So it seems that every few years I have a need to change the tool of trade for my hands. There was a full 4 years of cross-stitching in college. Then there was knitting for a good hot and heavy 2 years. Then Josh and I moved into stained glass and that one seems to really be sticking even though it has been an off again, on again relationship. So...what to do now? Enter sewing... DSC_0002

Sew if you want to know what you are getting for Christmas, Easter or any other holiday chances are it can be made with this machine. I was talking to my mom the other day asking her for ideas on different things I could sew everyone. She asked if everyone should expect something sewn for Christmas and my answer was yes. But it really could be worse guys...you could still be getting things cross-stitched.

ps. that is going to be an apron (for one of you) and look at that ruffle, doesn't that look professional?
